HVO100 Diesel

What is HVO100?

HVO100 is 100% hydrotreated vegetable oil – a renewable diesel made from waste fats, used cooking oil and vegetable oils. Chemically it is a paraffinic fuel to EN 15940, not a biodiesel (FAME) blend, and it can cut lifecycle CO₂ emissions by up to around 90% compared with fossil diesel.

Using HVO100 in your boat

Many modern marine engines are already approved for HVO100, and it can usually be mixed in any ratio with regular diesel. It has excellent storage stability and cold-weather behaviour and produces less soot. Check your engine maker's release before switching, particularly for older engines with certain seal materials.

Availability in the Baltic

HVO100 is the fastest-growing alternative fuel at marina pumps, but coverage is still patchy and the price usually sits above fossil diesel. The map below shows every station that sells it.
